It’s the perfect destination for a day trip from Tampa or St. Petersburg, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Let us take you on a journey through a day in Tarpon Springs.

Morning

Start your day with a visit to the Sponge Docks, the heart of Tarpon Springs’ Greek community. Here, you can watch sponge boats return to port, explore the many shops selling sponges and other Greek goods, and grab a delicious breakfast at one of the local cafes. Try the traditional Greek pastry, Spanakopita, or a freshly baked pastry from Hellas Bakery.

Afternoon

Next, take a leisurely stroll down Dodecanese Boulevard, which runs along the waterfront, and admire the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. There are several museums and art galleries along the way, including the Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum and the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

For lunch, head to one of the many seafood restaurants in town and try the local specialty, Greek-style octopus, or fresh Gulf shrimp. The Rusty Bellies Waterfront Grill is a popular spot, located right on the docks with great views of the boats and water.

After lunch, take a short drive to the nearby Anclote River Park and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of swimming, kayaking, or fishing. The park has several picnic areas and a playground, making it a great spot for families.

Evening

As the sun starts to set, head back to the Sponge Docks for a sunset cruise on the Miss Daisy, a replica of a traditional sponge boat. The cruise offers stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and the historic waterfront district. After the cruise, head to one of the many waterfront bars or restaurants and enjoy some live music or traditional Greek dancing.
